1st. National E-Summit 2016 at Calcutta Business School
The National E Summit on the theme ‘Driving India’s Growth through Student and Youth Entrepreneurship’ was held at Calcutta Business School on February 19-20, 2016, supported by Wadhwani Foundation and National Entrepreneurship Network (NEN). It is the first time that the National Summit was held at CBS.
The two day event was attended by over a hundred participants including distinguished speakers, eminent academicians, faculty members, promising start up entrepreneurs, business leaders, E-leaders of other colleges and a large number of students from CBS and other colleges.
After the welcome address by Dr Tamal Datta Chaudhuri, Principal, CBS, the event was inaugurated by Swami Vibhatmananda Maharaj of Advaita Ashram by lighting the lamp and chanting of vedic hymns. Swamiji inspired the students for entrepreneurship through the words of Swami Vivekananda. The key note address was given by Mr Sashi Chimala, EVP, NEN. The theme of the Summit was highlighted by Prof S N Mookherjee.
Mr Kalyan Kar, Co-Founder & MD, Inthink covered the industry leaders’ expectations from graduating students from B-Schools and the role of entrepreneurial mindset. Prof Rakesh Basant, IIMA and Chairperson, CIIE spoke at the economists panel on how crucial is entrepreneurship to India’s growth. Dr Jayita Bit, CBS also spoke at this session.
Mr Gaurav Kapoor, Innokul Lab highlighted the various initiatives taken to support and mentor student ventures. Mr Ravi Ranjan ( Nasscom ) took a session on Nasscom’s plan to build 10,000 startups and results seen so far. These two sessions drew maximum applause from the participants.
Presentations were made by 4 new startup ventures, Capacloud, Lucime Tech, Onergy and Agastya Buoyant , the first and the last were recently awarded winners at Egiye Bangla event of Govt of West Bengal, MSME and IIMCalcutta.
The day concluded with the session of Faculty Leaders consisting of Prof Rakesh Basant of IIMA, Prof PK Dan of IIT Kgp, Prof MKSanyal of IIEST and Prof D Sarkar of Dream Institute. They highlighted their experiences of inspiring students and the opportunities present today. This session was moderated by Prof JN Mukhopadhyay, Director, J D Birla Institute.
The second day started with a student E-Leaders Panel with student leaders from IIT Kgp, IIMCal, Dream Institute of Technology and Calcutta Business School. They shared their thoughts as to how the e-cells could be strengthened and supports they expect from respective institutes. The session generated much discussions.
The final session was a conclave with eco-system partners, consisting of Mr Raghav Kanoria, Calcutta Angels, Mr Subhranshu Sanyal, CEO, IIM Cal Innovation Park, Mr Partha Chatterjee, Joint Director, MSME, Mr A Bhattacharyya, Vice President TiE and Mr S Bhattacharya of NEN. The session was chaired by Prof Rakesh Basant. This session was interactive and drew maximum number of questions from the floor.
The day ended with closing remarks of Prof Rakesh Basant and Prof P K Dan who both proposed more interactions and collaborative-e- initiatives among nearby colleges. They expressed their willingness to offer help in this regard.
Prof S N Mookherjee then summed up the proceedings, expressed hope for bigger initiatives in the coming period and then proposed a vote of thanks. He also thanked the student e-leaders and volunteers of CBS who made the first Summit such a success.
