Report on the 7th Research Symposium of SGBED, hosted by Skyline University College, UAE at Dubai during December 17-19, 2018


The 7th Research Symposium of the Society for Global Business & Economic Development (SGBED) was organized by the Skyline University College, UAE, during December 17-19 2018, at the hotel Le Meridien Dubai, UAE, which was officially sponsored by Dubai Tourism, Government of Dubai and Emirates Airlines.


The theme of the symposium was “Managing Business in a Digital Age: Opportunities & Challenges”. The above-mentioned symposium provided a platform to the researchers, academicians and practitioners for discussing, debating and sharing knowledge on the diffusion of new technologies such as mobile, cloud computing, artificial intelligence, Big Data, robotics, 3D printing, apps, e-commerce, streaming and other web-based products and services, and their impact on the business and society and future implications.


Participants from eminent colleges, universities and corporates like Saint Mary’s University, Canada; University of Northern Colorado, Tampere University of Applied Sciences, Ashland University, USA, University of Western Australia, Curtin University, Australia, University of Verona, Italy, University of Rome “Tor Vergata”, University of Ghana Business School, University of East London, along with Skyline University College, Sharjah, City University College of Ajman, University of Wollongong in Dubai, Prince Sultan University Riyadh, UAE, IIT Bombay, Calcutta Business School, ABES Engineering College, Symbiosis Institute of Business Management, Christ University, O P Jindal Global University, PwC, India etc had participated in the symposium. Total 108 papers were presented over 18 sessions in addition to two doctoral workshop, one workshop on sales education and one session on “Meet the Editors” along with one key note speech delivered by Professor Piyush Sharma, Curtin University, Australia.


In this symposium, Calcutta Business School presented a paper titled “Linkage between Technology and Human Capital Development Strategies: Exploratory Evidences from Four Leading Firms in India”, under the joint authorship of Professor Shekhar Chaudhuri and Prof. Sanjib Biswas.


Prof. Biswas also served as a discussant in a technical session during the symposium.
