When Alumni becomes Mentor

Kamal Vora, Batch 2013-15 is an alumni of Calcutta Business School who joined KPMG as part of Campus Placement. Today after three years, he is a Senior Audit Associate with KPMG and is completing his CPA and raring to shift to KPMG USA, as a Certified Public Accountant.

He came to Calcutta Business School to do a workshop for 2 days ( 28th and 31st Dec’18) on US Audit, knowledge of which is a pre requisite condition for entry in KPMG, for an Audit Associate’s profile.

When asked how did Calcutta Business School help him to get into KPMG, his reply was that by pulling himself out of his comfort zone. The varied back ground of the students, a multi cultural environment, staying in a hostel away from the family, adjusting with so many unknown people, taking part in various co- curricular and extra curricular activities, presenting a research paper all by himself in Delhi, good professors, sound education and above all his determination and grit helped him to secure a job with KPMG.

When asked what kind of preparation or qualities should a student have to get a job in a good company, he said determination, focus and a clear goal are very important. According to him, a student should have a clear focus regarding the company he/she wants to go for. Next he/she should be prepared to work very hard to get into the desired company and be prepared to walk the extra mile to achieve that. Grit has no alternative. He said because he wanted to get into KPMG, he took special lessons on US Audit for 10 days from a friend because he knew KPMG would focus on US Audit.

He has fond memories about his alma mater and he is willing to mentor the students to help them to achieve success. We wish him luck and the very best for his future.
