When our country is mastering in excellence, Kolkata in its own way is presenting its gems on a worldwide platform.
Just when the great news of the Nobel Prize Winner Mr Abhijit Banerjee has been prevailing in the air, the good news of Saurav Ganguly being given the new chair of the "BCCI president " added to the happiness.
Just when this pair of news have been transcending on our minds, I came through an article where the news content was about a lady, Ms Sampriti Bhattacharya, from Kolkata who invented the first underwater drone.
The innovative breakthrough of aquamarine engineering came through this Bengali lady who invented the first underwater drone for mapping oceanic floors and oil beds. A moment of pride now binds the city as well as the country. The lack of proper equipment to track the underwater topography is now eliminated, thanks to her outstanding invention. Now, the Defence and Oil Companies are looking forward to using this technology and no wonder, are thanking Sampriti for her contribution.
Hailing from Kolkata, Sampriti was completing her PhD thesis at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) where she worked on this technology in her thesis. Gradually she worked her way through her work and finally patented the invention, which proved to be a breakthrough. Currently 30-years old, she was featured in the list of Forbes' top 30 most powerful young talents around the globe.
The Device- Her mind-boggling invention, called the Hydroswarm, can estimate the ocean pollution, sniff underwater mines, find blooming ecosystems, find underwater lost pieces of equipment and map oceanic floors and underwater topography. The device, which is the size of a football, has an ultrasound, HD cameras, and can scan 100 sq. Kms in just four hours without a conventional GPS. The best part is it can go deeper without fail and manufacturing is very cheap.
I ,as a PGDM student of Calcutta Business School, can only hope in coming times, she and other youth of our nation continue to make our country proud and help us to write and share more articles like this.
