Study Tour to UKM, Malaysia

Calcutta Business School launched the International Study Tour for the second year PGDM students with the objective of providing them an opportunity to acquire valuable insights about international business and management practices in other countries. This was felt necessary because many of our PGDM students get jobs in MNCs or their subsidiaries or associate companies in India. Given this placement scenario, it was felt that our students would be able to perform more effectively if they were provided an “immersive experience” in another country.

The students of Batch 2018-20 visited the National University of Malaysia ( Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, UKM) in August 2019. The purpose of the visit was to explore Malaysian economy, businesses, culture and life style through class room lectures, visits to the industries and local places.

A team of 35 students along with 3 professors visited UKM and stayed in Malaysia from Aug 11-16, 2019. The students visited local cultural and heritage places, trade centers, various malls and the Ministry of International Trade and Industries (MITI).

There were four class room sessions on Islamic Finance and its impact on Malaysia’s growth vis-a-vis the world economy; the cultural diversity of Malaysian organizations ; growth and development of Malaysian economy and entrepreneurial activities and prospects in Malaysia. At the end, the students of Calcutta Business School had made a comparative study on doing business in Malaysia vs India, where in they compared both the countries on the following aspects:

  • Financial system
  • Cultural dimensions
  • Business environment
  • Entrepreneurial development
  • Economic growth and future
