PRESENTATION OF RESEARCH PAPER IN INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON RECENT ADVANCES AND CHALLENGES IN FINANCE & MARKETING FOR NEW INDIA @ 2022
I, Subhalaxmi Nath a student of Calcutta Business School have got a chance to present my Research Paper on “A framework for analysing the performance of mutual funds” in an International Conference to be held in New Delhi on 6th & 7th of September’2019. I feel privileged to be a part of the conference and I would like to thank Calcutta Business School and all my professors who guided me through the process and motivated me to write the paper.
My paper is about analysing the performance of selected equity mutual funds in India based on excess returns generated. A portfolio is created from companies that constitute a fund, and portfolio returns are calculated using the weights given in the portfolio. Excess returns from this portfolio is then mapped on excess returns from the market. The study covers daily returns for five years. It focuses on performance of different categories of mutual funds like large cap, mid cap and small cap funds. Based on the analysis, we investigate whether the portfolios have been able to generate return in excess of market. Besides stock selection, we also investigate whether the fund managers have been able to time the market.
