Tree Library

Just like a library which is a collection of books, one-stop destination in a three acre plot in New Town Kolkata has been inaugurated on 1st August, 2019 to get people familiarize with basic information of trees. The library has being set up Housing and Infrastructure Development Corporation (Hidco), New Town Kolkata Development Authority, West Bengal Forest Department and Pollution Control Board.

It is a first step in building a relationship between common masses and greenery. A portion of the tree library will also be housed inside “Smriti Van”, a park that was set up so that celebrities in the city could plant saplings. Apart from the trees like banyan, peepal or perhaps neem, most people are still confused about how the different types of trees are there in Bengal. As per the Botanical Survey Report there are 3850 plant species in Bengal and all these will be kept there in the library. Presently the library would have space to hold 1,100 to 1,200 trees which would be looked after by the forest department.

Calcutta Business School, ranked the 4th best B School in Kolkata by careers 360 also does its best to preserve and plant trees. Tree Planting is made compulsory here every year and follows the AICTE directive of ‘One student one tree’ policy. The 15 acre lush green Campus has many trees and every year more saplings are planted not only to beautify the Campus but to make the environment cleaner and pollution free.
